WINDSOR pair Noah and Thomas Moncrieff continue to travel overseas playing ice hockey, and it looks as though their future may lie living in other continents and playing the sport they love.
On March 20, Thomas was in Serbia playing for Australia’s under-18 team, which won the gold medal in the International Ice Hockey Federation under-18 World Championship in the second division.
Meanwhile, Noah was in Minnesota playing in the Friendship Games with a bunch of fellow Australians against other nations.
The boys are living a charmed life, travelling the globe and playing ice hockey in various locations, and it appears they have caught the travel bug.
Noah said he had no idea what his future held, but made his intentions fairly clear.
“I will just try my hardest to be the best and make the most of my opportunities,” he said.
“I'd be really happy if I could go back to Minnesota and live with my billet family, go to school and play hockey every day.
“Travelling the world is remarkable. I can get so many opportunities to show the world what I can do.”
Thomas, whose 16th birthday was on Monday, has similar goals and also thoroughly enjoys traversing the globe.
“I’m not too sure what my future holds, but I hope it's big. I'd like to go back to Sweden to play and finish my schooling,” he said.
“It's an amazing experience, I get to play the sport I love in so many new places.”
Thomas and his Australian team mates managed to surprise many at the recent tournament they competed in.
Two years ago, the Australians were relegated and moved down a division, but last year they were successful and moved back up, and now, the Australians will again move up a division thanks to their tournament victory.
Noah’s tournament was not as competitive.
He played with the Australian Ice Crocs in what is meant to be a friendly tournament where players meet other players from across the globe.
Despite the friendly nature, the boys still all find it hard to completely dismiss their competitive nature.
Noah said this year he had been practising hard to improve his goal shooting, while his brother Thomas said he wanted to read how the game was played and understand the game of hockey more.
The Gazette asked the boys who would win the National Hockey League’s Stanley Cup this season. Noah was convinced the San Jose Sharks would go one better and win the cup this year, after losing to Pittsburgh in the Stanley Cup finals in 2016. Thomas said 2015 Stanley Cup winners the Chicago Blackhawks were certain to take this year’s title.
When not travelling overseas, the pair play for the Penrith Flyers.
They both said the Flyers were always looking out for new players to join the club and learn how to play ice hockey, and anyone interested should contact the club for further details.
