AROUND 60 women gathered at Richmond High School on International Women’s Day to hear an address by Dannielle Miller, CEO of Enlighten Education – which provides self esteem and resilience programs for girls aged 12-18.
Female students, their mothers, grandmothers, aunties, sisters and friends, as well as female staff members and their daughters, attended the event on Wednesday, March 8, to hear Ms Miller speak.
“In the one-hour talk, Dannielle gave insight into some of the struggles that impact on girls and women,” said Richmond High School girls coordinator, Fiona Nixon.
“The issues discussed included body image angst, low self-esteem and hypersexual portrayals of females by the media and advertisers.
“Dannielle revealed why so many of us are overwhelmed and most importantly, offered a path forward.”
After the talk, students presented Ms Miller with a bunch of flowers, and attendees enjoyed refreshments provided by the Richmond High School hospitality team, headed by Viveka Vaz.
“The talk was positive, uplifting and empowering. The evening was a fabulous way to connect teens and the significant women in their lives,” said Ms Nixon.
Enlighten Education's school programs and workshops encourage teenage girls to decode the mixed messages they receive and help them develop self-worth and resilience.
Ms Miller has co-written a number of books on the topic, including Gratitude – A positive new approach to raising thankful kids, and Loveability an Empowered Girl’s Guide to Dating and Relationships.
