National Youth Week will again be celebrated in Richmond Park this year, with plenty of fun for kids of all ages.
National Youth Week (NYW) is the largest celebration of young people in Australia. Thousands of young people aged 12-25 from across Australia are involved in NYW each year.
In 2017, NYW will be held from March 31 to April 9. This year’s theme is ‘Be here, Be heard’
This year’s event for Youth Week in the Hawkesbury, is YouthFest 17, on April 7 at Richmond Park.
North Richmond Youth Project and their Youth Action Team (YAT) and Hawkesbury City Council have been collaborating together, to plan a great night for all young people in the Hawkesbury.
“As the Hawkesbury is an isolated area when it comes to health and specialist services, the aim of the event is to provide young people with opportunity to not only have fun, but to also be able to access specialist youth services on the night,” a YAT spokesperson said.
“Specialist Youth Services can support young people in the areas of; mental health, homelessness/couch surfing, mental health, drug and alcohol, sexual and reproductive health, disability, health and fitness and provide referral for any other needs.”
Running for the third consecutive year, YouthFest is a free event aimed for young people aged 12 to 25, but all are welcome.
There will be plenty of activities including bubble soccer, giant adult jumping castle, live DJ’s, giant castle wars, free food (BBQ and pancakes), photo booth, giveaways and more.
Last year, YouthFest 2016 was nominated for an award, for the 'Most innovative Youth Week Program', at the local government awards.
