BLIGH Park will contest the Hawkesbury District Cricket Association’s first grade final this weekend, though who their opponent will be remains to be seen.
Because rain washed out play for the senior semi-finals, the top two teams in each grade went through the grand final.
North Richmond has been pencilled in to play in the decider, although Riverstone has challenged the number of points they have been awarded from the season.
The HDCA will have a Wednesday night meeting to determine whether Riverstone or North Richmond will play in the finals against Bligh Park.
Depending on the weather, Wednesday’s meeting might not matter anyway.
The association’s rules say that first grade must be played on turf, which means Bligh Park, who finished the season atop the table, will be premiers if the game is washed out.
All other grades will go ahead, provided the grounds are dry enough to play on.
Bligh Park captain Michael van der Reyden said too many games had been washed out this season, and hoped it stayed away this weekend, even though it would deliver the premiership to Bligh Park.
“We don't want rain, we don't want to get it by default. You want to win, not have it given to you,” he said.
Van der Reyden said he had no idea there was a question over who would be in the grand final, but regardless hoped for a good game.
He said Lachlan Eldridge and Matt Shadboldt were the North Richmond danger men, while Glen Jacobsen and Rhys Whybrow were the Riverstone players to fear.
