It was a disappointing day at the pitch for most Hawkesbury Cricket Club grades at the weekend, as they faced powerhouse Penrith outfits.
The first grade side has suffered a touch up by the visitors at Owen Earl Oval, after a poor first innings performance.
Despite a solid half century by Jay Dyball in the first innings, the rest of the Hawkesbury line up failed to stand up to the strong Penrith bowling attack.
It took little time for Penrith to secure their wickets, taking five ducks, and very few runs to see Hawkesbury all out in their first innings for 115.
Penrith then took to the crease for their first shot at runs, and that they did with R Hackney clocking up 63 and M Hopkins smashing away another 60.
Despite two golden ducks, decent work with the bat from the rest of the line up saw Penrith declare quickly with four for 150.
Hawkesbury came out strong in their second innings bid, with DJ McKay scoring 64 and C Lowe putting on a half century to help their side to 180.
Penrith wasted little time in returning to the crease, with DiBartolo taking 44, Sammut taking 45 and Hopkins 31 to help their side to an easy win for the match.
In second grade the above scoreboard read much the same with the local lads toppled by Penrith, in what was an impressive performance for the home side.
Penrith kicked of the batting and MJ Castle made an immediate first impression as first opener, smacking away 123.
Second opener P Betros also earned his kudos at the crease, taking 77, followed closely by B Williams with 66, to help their side to a seven for 338 opening innings.
Wickets fell fast for Hawkesbury in their first innings, as Penrith took two ducks and four golden ducks.
Hawkesbury’s T Wood came painfully close to a half tonne for the locals, finishing bot out for 49, but it wasn’t enough for his team who finished all out for 112.
Hawkesbury’s third and fourth grade sides also fell to strong Penrith outfits, with the only win coming for the HCC coming from their fifth grade line up over the Eastern Suburbs, taking the home side for 85 runs.
