THREE Hawkesbury kids will play in the US Kids Golf Australian Open during the week, and they are chuffed to be there.
Chayse Thorpe, Imogen Carter and Ti Fox from North Richmond, Wilberforce and Windsor Downs respectively, will all compete in the tournament, which runs on Thursday and Friday.
They are all keen golfers, and practice and play together often.
It helps that Ti’s dad Chris is a golf pro himself, and works out of Riverside-Oaks Golf Course, and gives the three lessons from time to time.
Eight-year-old Ti took after his dad and embraced his passion for golf.
Ti said at the tender age of 18 months, after watching his dad practice putting in the front yard often, Ti decided to crawl through his house, haul himself through the family dog door, and pick up a putter and have a go himself.
Chris said his son had been hooked ever since, and he thought it was fantastic he was enjoying the sport and making friends with people like Imogen, 10, and Chayse, also 10, while he was at it.
He added that the handicap of all three players 26, 25.9 and 40.5 for Chayse, Ti and Imogen respectively was very good for children their age.
Imogen and Chayse both said they enjoyed hanging out with ti and learning the finer art of golf from Chris.
They both said they were looking forward to the golf tournament as well.
It is the first time the tournament has been run, and it is being played out of Moore Park.
Some of the best young golfers in Australia will be at the tournament, where the grand prize is a trip to the United States.
