HOBARTVILLE Public School students were treated to an inspiring address from three-time Paralympic Gold Medallist and Order of Australia Medal (OAM) winner, Kurt Fearnley.
Mr Fearnley visited the school for its Celebration of Learning assembly, and spoke about his life after being born with sacral agenesis, which prevented fetal development of certain parts of his lower spine and all of his sacrum.
Mr Fearnley rose through the ranks to become a champion Paralympic athlete, and he was the team captain at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.
He also won the prestigious New York, London and Chicago marathons multiple times, as well as crawling the gruelling Kokoda Track.
He spoke about the need for communities to be inclusive of people of all abilities.
During his visit, Mr Fearnley presented student Kaleah with the Matthew Kenny memorial award for sporting achievement. Kaleah was a Sydney West representative for cricket this year.
Mr Fearnley’s visit was organised by Georgia, a Year 1 student whose mum works with him through her role at the Teacher’s Health fund.
