BIG glittering hampers full of yummy goodies is what Hawkesbury City Chamber of Commerce wants to be able to deliver to families doing it hard on Christmas Day.
Chamber members are putting together hampers for Legacy, Women’s Cottage, The Living Room at Richmond and Peppercorn Services, as well as some individuals they personally know who need them.
“We are aiming for 100 hampers this year,” Chamber president Kerry Spindler said.
“Donations of non-perishable food items can be left at Richmond Marketplace near the food court or at NOVA Richmond in Bosworth Street.”
The sorts of items they’re after include long-life milk and custards, jams and condiments, tinned ham, tinned fruit, meat or vegies especially asparagus and corn, baked beans, spaghetti, shortbread, Christmas cake, biscuits, dates, pretzels, crackers, nuts, figs, fruit mince pies, chocolates, tea and lollies.
Last year the chamber put together 80 hampers for women and their children being helped by the Women’s Cottage, which then-manager Sharon Payne said meant so much to the women, as it let them know their community cared about them. She said the women usually respond with smiles and “happy tears”.
Don’t forget the giving tree at the Gazette office in Richmond which still needs more presents, and the wishing tree at Harmony Boutique in Park Mall in Richmond.
