Picking up the three points over the weekend was huge. For the last four or five rounds we’ve played some really good football but we just haven’t been getting the three points we desire, so to put a performance on that resulted in four goals and the three points was key.
It was great to get a couple of assists against the Mariners. It’s good to contribute to the team going forward; as fullbacks, Jack Clisby and I are managing to get forward quite well in the structure that we play and we’ve got so many good players that we can pick out in the box.
It’s up to us to provide those opportunities for the boys. Defensively, we’re starting to cut out the sloppy goals at the back but we still need to make sure we’re a bit tighter and don’t give away too many chances so that we can punish teams when we do go forward.
I’m really looking forward to Saturday night’s clash against Melbourne Victory at ANZ Stadium.
I wasn’t able to play the last time we met them. We weren’t at our best that game and I think we owe the fans a good performance and a good result. We’re playing at ANZ Stadium and obviously our last game there wasn’t too fruitful so we want to make sure we turn that around and make the ground a bit of a fortress.
Melbourne Victory have some very good attacking players and we’ll always look to nullify them but the best way to do that is for us to attack and keep the ball and make their forward men do a lot more defending and a lot more running towards their own goal.
It’s sure to be an exciting contest and I hope to see you all there.
