Richmond’s artistic future is in safe hands, according to rotarian Geoff Nash.
Mr Nash’s comment follows the recent judging of Richmond Rotary Club’s Richmond Senior High Schools Art Awards 2016.
This year’s winner, determined by a judging panel which included well known artists Judy Brownlie and Greg Hansell, was Richmond High School’s Danielle Font.
Runners up were Erin Barnes (Arndell Anglican), Caitlin Bradshaw (Richmond High), Gillian Hunt (Colo High) and Faith Evans (Arndell Anglican).
Encouragement awards were handed to Mischa Spring (Ardnell Anglican) and Emma Fitzgerald.
“The quality of entries this year was of an extremely high standard and emphasises the artistic talents of many young people within the Hawkesbury district,” said Mr Nash, who co-ordinated the awards.
“In an area which produces more than its share of professional artists, we tend to overlook the brilliant work being produced by our talented young students.”
The $3000 prize money, which was handed to the various winners, was provided by the Rotary Club in partnership with Maggie Scott and Robyn Williams of the Purple Noon Gallery at Freemans Reach.
The competition was open to all senior students attending the seven local government and non-government secondary schools within the Richmond Rotary Club catchment.
Works covered a variety of artistic genres.
