It has taken years and countless hours of rallying by members of the Riverstone community to finally secure funding for a local skate park.
A community campaign for a skate park in Riverstone, which included a Facebook page run by local mum Sonia Grima has lead to Blacktown Council securing $400,000 in federal funding to build the facility.
The commitment in funding will be delivered through the Community Development Grants program which funds community infrastructure projects across Australia.
The Funding confirmation came through on the Coalition Government’s election commitment from Senator and minister for regional development Fiona Nash.
“The Coalition is committed to supporting local communities to prosper and grow. Local infrastructure projects are critical if we want to boost economic growth and improve local amenities and facilities,” Ms Nash said.
Before the election this year, Federal member for Greenway Michelle Rowlands promised funding for the project, and has praised the hard work and campaigning of the local community in securing the funding.
“This has been one of those grass-root campaigns that have been really worthwhile and speaks to a lot of the issues we keep hearing about more youth-friendly facilities in the area,” Ms Rowland said.
Meetings have been under way between skate-park campaigners and Blacktown Council over a potential location for a permanent skate park.
