Work on the $340 million east-west corridor upgrade of Schofields Road between Windsor Road and Richmond Road is pushing ahead, with the second stage between Tallawong and Veron Roads on track to open to motorists before the middle of next year.
Member for Riverstone Kevin Conolly advises said the NSW Government’s plan to progressively upgrade an eight kilometre section of Schofields to four lanes will ensure motorists can enjoy the benefits sooner.
“More than 200,000 people are expected to move to Sydney’s north-west by 2045, including growth suburbs such as Schofields, Riverstone and Marsden Park, which will see the region expand and grow into a thriving community,” Mr Conolly said.
“The NSW Government is continuing to deliver its huge program of work to support this future growth by providing better road connections to and from the region now.”
Mr Conolly said work at key intersection upgrades including Hambledon Road, Boundary Road/Alex Avenue, and Railway Terrace are underway, providing increased capacity for motorists once complete, as well as road pavement work between Schofields Farm Road to Railway Terrace.
“In addition to this, the new underpass of the Richmond Railway line near the Schofields train station is moving ahead with excavation work continuing” said Mr Conolly.
Almost 14,000 tonnes of asphalt has been laid, 10,000 cubic metres of concrete placed for road surfacing work and shared paths and more than 14,000 shrubs along this section of road have been planted already.
“Work on the $140 million Schofields Road stage three upgrade which includes extending 2.5 kilometres of Schofields Road to four lanes from Veron to Richmond roads, with the capacity to widen to six lanes in the future is also progressing” Mr Conolly said.
The project will feature two twin bridges across Eastern and Bells Creeks, new traffic lights at Carnarvon Road as well as provide for a future Fermoy Road connection to Schofields Road.
“Work started earlier this year, with good progress made on the bridges and earth works. This project is expected to be completed by mid-2018, weather permitting” Mr Conolly said.
Work on both projects is carried out Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and on Saturdays between 8am and 1pm, weather permitting. However, working hours for Saturdays has been extended until 3pm for Schofields Road Stage three until 26 November, weather permitting.
