RAAF Base Richmond welcomed another new C-27J Spartan aircraft on Tuesday.
It's the RAAF's third C-27J Spartan with a total of ten expected to arrive over time.
The aircraft are manufactured in Italy, but then go to Texas where they're fitted with extra equipment.
The training centre for the C-27J is in Texas at the moment and RAAF are borrowing capacity of an American centre whilst they set up our own here.
For the delivery flight, the C-27J went via Canada, Europe, the Middle East and Asia before landing in Richmond. It's the first time the RAAF has flown this route with the C-27J.
A spokesperson from the RAAF said that with more Spartans at RAAF Base Richmond, there will be more of them flying around the Hawkesbury.
“This includes airdrop training and trials at Londonderry, as well as routine training from Richmond so that the aircrew can keep their skills up.”
RAAF said they were expecting another Spartan by the end of the year.
They’re also expecting Initial Operating Capability - that is, they have a baseline capability with the aircraft and can start sending it on exercises and operations - by the end of the year.
