FOURTEEN Year 10 students from Hawkesbury High School hosted a very special charity breakfast for Pink Finss at the weekend, as part of their studies in business.
The event was put together during school hours as part of a program run by JobQuest - a non-profit organisation that runs employment skills programs, targeted at school leavers.
Each year, a selected group of Year 10 students from Hawkesbury High School participate in the program, which equips them with a range of skills and qualifies as a partial qualification in business management.
This year’s event was held at Hawkesbury Race Club, where the students successfully raised $13,330.88 for Pink Finss. They also raised additional funds by hosting a car wash at school, a lolly guessing competition and a cake stall during the Federal Election.
Brooke Gibson, from Richmond - who was one of the Year 10 students involved in organising the event - said they chose Pink Finss because it helps women and families in the Hawkesbury.
“It was a good experience and it felt good to help, knowing it would go to people in our own community,” she told the Gazette.
Students were required to obtain sponsorship, prize donations, a venue, sell tickets, promote the event, design the program, set up and pack up the venue, liaise with local businesses around the community and organise an MC.
Alexis Rutherford, PD.H.PE Coordinator and Year 9 advisor, said it was one of the best events students have hosted through this program.
“The level of organisation and professionalism displayed by the students far exceeded everyone's expectations,” she told the Gazette.
“As one of the programs supervising teachers (together with Mr Aaron Leggatt) we were beaming with pride on the day at the exceptional event the student had put together.”
