Following emerging Hawkesbury filly Spright’s explosive weekend Royal Randwick victory, Hawkesbury trainer Garry Frazer has been quick to pay due credit to his 22-year-old son Jordan.
“Jordan rides her in all her work and deserves recognition for the role he has played in the filly’s progress,” Frazer said following the victory.
“Earlier on Spright was a hard-going filly, but he has got her to settle and relax.
“He has done an unbelievable job.”
Spright, with Jason Collett aboard, made it two wins from as many starts this campaign, when she burst down the centre of the track at Randwick to thrash the “boys” in the $150,000 Listed Brian Crowley Stakes (1200m).
It was an outstanding performance and one which both lifted her earnings beyond $200,000 and also clinched her a trip south to chase Melbourne Cup carnival glory at Flemington.
“I’ve got no doubt Spright will be a better filly next time in work, but she has pulled up well and in her current form, it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to have a runner at Flemington during Cup week. I’m sure the straight track will really suit her.
Frazer is eyeing the $200,000 Group 3 Crown Resorts Plate (1100m) on Oaks day (Thursday, November 3), co-incising with Ladies Day at Hawkesbury.
No doubt the whole of Hawkesbury race track will be tuned in to what will be a great result for the locals, following a strong start to the season.
