A BRILLIANT unbeaten century from Freemans Reach batsman Chris Hately helped his team defeat Schofields in local cricket at the weekend.
In the second round of Hawkesbury District Cricket Association’s first grade, Schofields succumbed to Freemans Reach over the course of the two-day match.
Chris Hately individually scored more than the entire Schofields batting line up, with a fine unbeaten century of 128.
Freemans Reach cruised past Schofields’ first innings total of 119 to reach 3-281 before declaring.
With their second chance, Schofields had a much better innings, reaching 5-126 to round out the game and avoid an outright defeat.
Schofields will have a chance to regroup, with the team scheduled for the bye.
Meanwhile, North Richmond has won its first match of the season, after taking down reigning premiers Riverstone.
Riverstone was looking in good shape after the first day of the two-day game, with north Richmond already two batsmen down.
However, Matt Rose, 48, and Isaac Heath, 53, dug in and worked the team into a good position.
The North Richmond team was even able to survive the loss of the two batsmen, who quickly followed each other to the sheds.
Grant Ogg, Stephen Rosenbladh and Andrew Craig steered the their team home, to reach 7-206, beating Riverstone’s total of 202.
In the upcoming round, North Richmond and Freemans Reach will battle while Bligh Park and Riverstone will also square off.
Bligh Park remains atop the ladder.
