Despite fracturing her back a few months ago, Mackenzie Tricker is fighting back in the women’s WMX motocross series in Florida.
Tricker, a Hawkesbury local, is racing in the 10 round WMX series, which has been going since March with round nine set to race this weekend.
Kicking off the series Tricker was finding good form, picking up a first place and a second in another round before a devastating fall saw her fracture her back.
“This year’s been rough for sure,” Tricker said
“Things were looking good mid year I won a round and got second in the other then I fractured my T7 in my back and took eight weeks off.
“It's been rough since I've been back riding, I struggled initially but last weekend I was able to go 1-2 for second overall on the day,” she said.
After dominating the sport in Australia five years ago, Tricker took her skills to the US to cement her place on the world stage.
She praised the experience she has been getting in the sport overseas and looked forward to her future in the sport.
“I was at the top of female racing in Australia in 2011 so we decided to come and do one of the big amateur nationals in Florida and I won, so we decided to come back and I've been here racing since,” she said.
She said her current focus was finishing the WMX series on a high with the final rounds approaching, before she plans to fly home on November 30.
“I have a WMX championship round this weekend and one more in November, and then I have also been trying some off road racing in the bush this year so I have another one of those left also.”
For 2016, the WMX Championship is an 10 round series that takes place in conjunction with premier amateur motocross events throughout the country – including the Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross, Freestone Spring Championship, and California Classic.
Additionally, the WMX Championship will make three stops along the professional motocross tour with Friday racing at the Hangtown Motocross Classic and with Sunday racing action after the High Point National and Ironman National.
The WMX is the feature of each event, racing both motos on one day. A champion is named on November 26.
