Saturday marks a giant step forward for locally based folk duo Kit and The Cub.
After having spent the past two years working on their own material, they will release their debut EP.
Titled, The Rest Of Our Days, it will be released on all popular digital media platforms, including iTunes, Spotify and Amazon.
The songs were recorded earlier this year at a studio in Glossodia.
Kit and The Cub are better known as Jaimie (J.D.) Coote on keys and vocals, and Andrew (A.D.) Proven on guitar and vocals.
Jaimie hails from Richmond, and Andrew from Windsor.
The pair became friends and musical colleagues when working in a western Sydney-based alternative blues band.
They say, via their biography that it was a mutual creative need to write and perform “unashamed songs, reflecting the dark and light of life, relationships, dreams and storytelling” that drew them together.
It was the untimely hiatus of their previous project that gave them the positive nod to proceed with their journey into folkier terrain.
The pair take their inspiration from independent artists like Julia Nunes, Joe Purdy, William Elliott Whitmore, Ellie Goulding and Angus & Julia Stone.
Realising it was more than a flight of fancy, the pair have their sights set far into the future.
Sound-wise, Kit and The Cub combine piano and acoustic guitar for their rhythms and melodies and layer over the top the signature, smoky vocals of Coote, and the underlying baritone of Provan.
Just as their list of original material is carefully crafted, when playing live the pair are mindful of the cover material they add to a set.
Each of the songs are selected to pay tribute to their own musical heroes … folks that they feel have deeply affected and shaped their own musical identities.
Andrew said that unfortunately a venue could not be confirmed in time for the EP’s release, meaning Saturday’s launch will purely be an online event.
