HAWKESBURY waste and transport specialist Robert Ussher was given a fine send off by his family on Friday, September 23, after he died suddenly earlier this month.
A procession of trucks, including some from the Berkshire Rural Fire Service, of which Ussher was a member, made its way through the Hawkesbury on Friday morning.
Mr Ussher’s coffin was transported on the back of a truck called LasRyd, which has been specially made for this purpose, and was driven in from Canberra. The service was held at Darrel Logue Funerals in Windsor.
Born 13/06/1954 to Robert William Ussher Snr and Lola Ann Sarah Ussher of Berkshire Park, he was the only brother to Susan, Margaret and Sally. He went to school at Windsor South then to high school in Riverstone.
He was well-known in the Hawkesbury waste and transport industry, having started with the family business R.W. Ussher & Sons in Berkshire Park in the seventies. The company was involved in the removal of waste from Hawkesbury Council and Richmond RAAF.
Mr Ussher was a passionate fire fighter, rising all the way to captain in the local SES where he was a group leader receiving the National Service medal for 25 years in the RFS.
His career spanned commercial waste, car transport, bulk earthworks, tipper transport, recycling, demolition and excavation. Just before his death he worked as a allocations manager at A-Civil.
Mr Ussher had two sons, Robert William Ussher 3rd born 08/06/1976, and Raymond William Ussher born 20/01/1981, with whom he shared his knowledge and love of trucks.
Mr Ussher’s death came only a year after the death of his father.
