She has only been racing motorcycles for two years, yet Julie Klinker form Freeman’s Reach is quickly making a name for herself on the moto circuit.
A member of team Proworx, managed by fellow Hawkesbury resident Mark Watson, Klinker is on track to win her second women’s Swann Insurance Australasian Superbike Championship.
Coming off the back of a win in the series earlier this month, Klinker is winning the womens series so far and will head to Queensland at the end of the month for the next stage.
In the open ASC mens and womens division Klinker, 24, is sitting second, and is hoping to win that division for a second time also.
“This season has been great we are continuously improving on previous results dropping lap times and battling with riders I had never battled with before,” Klinker said.
“In the two years I’ve been racing i have made a great improvement but even with this season I’m still improving every time I get out on track.”
Klinker said she became interested in moto racing after randomly meeting a group of riders while on a solo ride through Victoria and South Australia in 2014.
The riders happened to be from the Hawkesbury also, and put her in touch with her now trainer who organised a try out.
“I had a test ride at Wakefield Park Gouldburn. I fell off in my test ride but showed potential and then i became the newest member of Team Kelen Kawasaki Racing at the time, now known as Proworx Racing.”
She said the competition wasn’t the only thing she loved about racing, but also the people she has been able to meet and the way it has made her feel.
“Racing motorcycles gives me the feeling of being alive and the adrenaline so intense and an awesome feeling.
“The friendships that I have made along the way are incredible and so is the amount of respect everyone gives to you on track.”
Klinker said she wouldn't be able to live out her love of racing if it wasn’t for her sponsors – Motorcycle Accessories Supermarket (MCA), Wrappit, Ricondi, Mick Muldoon Motorcycles, Doctor R1, Motul, Fast Flicks and our very own Haweskbury Businesses, Superior Screens, Grey Gum Cafe and The Motorcycle Wreckers.
She said she was hopeful of further sponsorship however to help push her career forward. Anyone interested in sponsoring Julie is urged to contact her on 0421553966 or email me on jklinker92@hotmail.com
