From today, September 1, new rules come into effect making it easier to run a sporting club, musical society, childcare facility, cultural group or other community-based organisation.
The NSW Government recently completed a review of legislation covering incorporated associations. These are usually small, non-profit entities run by volunteers, of which there are more than 35,000 in NSW.
The changes will make it easier for associations to comply with the laws and do their administration.
Associations will now be able to vote electronically (in addition to postal voting), there may be lower compliance costs, with the fee for annual lodgement of financial affairs reduced by 18.5 percent for most associations.
“Whether it’s a soccer club, communal garden, craft group or childcare facility, incorporated associations play a vital role in local communities,” NSW Fair Trading Commissioner Rod Stowe said.
“They bring people together and provide important services at a grassroots level,” he said.
“The updated laws and regulation introduced today will cut red tape and costs for these organisations, giving them more time to enjoy their common interest,” Mr Stowe said.
