IT’S Legacy Week and volunteers will be out en masse in the Hawkesbury selling badges to raise money for families of our incapacitated and deceased war veterans.
Legacy badge-sellers will be situated along the main streets and in shopping centres in Richmond and Windsor, on Thursday and Friday, September 1 and 2.
They will be selling a range of merchandise including badges (ranging in price from $5 to $5000), wristbands ($3), pens ($5) and teddy bears ($15).
Acting chair of Hawkesbury Legacy, Di Finch, said there are 170 war widows in the Hawkesbury region, including 130 from WW2, and one from WW1.
“The money we raise will go towards helping our widows, as they all need a lot of support,” she told the Gazette.
The funds raised from Legacy Week will help local widows, children and people with disabilities, with essential services such as, counselling, special housing, medical, advocacy and social support.
Funds will also help nurture children’s education, by contributing towards their school fees, books, uniforms, and recreational activities.
