THIS year’s spring fair at the Secret Garden at Richmond as it is a special one for them as it is the last at their old site on Western Sydney University’s campus.
Calling it their ‘Spring Fair-well’ the Secret Garden and Nursery are in the proces of moving after 25 years at the current site.
Springing into action at 9am to 4pm, there will be lots of discounted spring colour plants, an explosion of pigs, chickens, ducks and other friendly farmyard animals for the kids to see, a show and shine car show with Corvettes, Mustangs and other gleaming chromed beasts, beautiful gardens, plants, live music, children’s activities, coffee, freshly-made Devonshire teas and a barbecue.
Bring your money as a plethora of stalls will offer cakes, jams, candles, crystals, honey, herbal products, gems, jewellery, bee hotels, old fashioned wares and recycled goods.
The garden’s new site is also on campus but is 15 acres as opposed to the previous site’s five and will also perform a community hub function.
The Garden’s Marianne Farrar said the change had opened up more opportunities. “The new site is already a hub of activity with Riding for the Disabled, Men’s Shed, Plant Shop, a playground and lots of creative spaces with a café soon to be completed,” she said.
“The community has grown to love the Secret Garden over the last 25 years so we encourage everyone to join us for our final spring celebration at the original garden site.
“We feel sentimental hosting our last fair at the original garden but excited to celebrate new beginnings. We will be discounting hundreds of our plants with lots of beautiful spring colour available!”
The Secret Garden and Nursery is a not-for- profit community garden run by North West Disability Services connecting plants, nature, and farmyard animals to people with a range of abilities. It’s on the university’s Hawkesbury Campus, College Drive via Bourke Street, Richmond.
