ELF Farm Supplies will install a new odour-management system, which could be a breath of fresh air for South Windsor and McGraths Hill residents.
Construction of the new system will begin next month.
The system is used at mushroom farms in western Europe, Canada and New Zealand to neutralise the odour of the mushroom compost.
Rob Tolson, who owns the Elf Farm Supplies business, said the new system and other planned upgrades to the business would take 24 months to complete.
“We are really proud to be the first mushroom compost producer in Australia to install this innovative technology,” he said.
“We have worked with engineering specialists to design a biofilter that utilises the latest advances in odour science and is adapted to the Australian environment.”
The management system works by filtering the smell through porous organic material, while roofing and tunnels will also be installed at the site to keep the operations completely under cover.

The business is running an information session on the new system at Hawkesbury Central Library on Saturday from 11am to 2pm.
