MOTHER and daughter duo Tracey Pugsley and Briney Rigby settle their arguments on the water with hundreds of horsepower at their disposal.
Briney won the latest argument, claiming the Australian Formula 4 Power Boat championship recently.
If the names sound familiar it is because the pair are part of the team behind the Dargle operation.
Tracey’s husband Chris collected the Australian and NSW title at Dargle earlier this year.
Chris reportedly gets very nervous when he sees his wife and daughter pushing the limits on the water, but the same could not be said for the drivers themselves.
Briney said she treated her mum like any other driver on the water.
“I see Mum as just another driver wanting to be on the podium. So if there is an opportunity to pass and overtake I will push hard to get there,” she said.
Tracey said she was not quite as hung-ho as her daughter.
“Briney is 17 and I’m nearly 50 with a worn out body from racing cars, bikes, boats and ski racing so I don’t push too hard because I know if I make a mistake and have an accident its going to hurt,” she said.
“17 year olds don’t think like that. We race each other as we race our fellow competitors, sometimes harder because we can.”
While Briney clearly feels slightly more competitive than her mum, they both agree it is special to race against each other.
Tracey said she loved watching Briney and her other children’s racing skills develop.
“It has been a privilege for me to share the water with my daughter and I’ve had a front row seat to watch Briney and our other talented kids develop their skills as they go onto the next level,” she said.
“I’m still a mum on the track checking to see where Briney is and make sure she is okay and going well and cheering her on from the cockpit and she does the same for me.”
Tracey said she has learned a lot over the years of racing, but her daughter has some ‘mongrel’ that she will never possess.
