AN INCREDIBLY close season saw the top Lowlands Wanderers women’s team finish undefeated and premiers, by just a single point.
The Wanderers were a newly formed team in Nepean Football Association’s All Age Women Division One competition.
The team won 12 matches and had six draws and beat Springwood FC to the premiership title by one point.
The team’s coach Mark Gaffey said there were no easy games in the season.
“There were six fairly hard fought draws and the competition wasn't really won until the last day of the season,” he said.
“We won it within a point, so it wasn't as if we had it easy. It was a really tough season, everybody bar probably two teams was very competitive.”
In fact, the season was so close that despite going through the regular portion undefeated, in the first week of the finals.
Gaffey said it was a shame the team lost, but it had had a great season.
“This was a new team put together amongst friends and acquaintances,” he said.
“The majority of the girls have played together since they were about 10 years old in some fashion.”
Gaffey said the team would play in the Champions of Champions tournament in September.
He said the women were hoping to make up for their finals loss in the tournament.
