HAWKESBURY boxer Joel Brunker is back in the winner’s circle for the first time in over a year after knocking out South African fighter Issaka Issah on Sautrday night in Melbourne.
A change in management has paid dividends for the 30-year-old, who is hoping to have a fight in Sydney later this year.
Brunker acknowledged he was rusty in the fight, but was still good enough to knock out Issah, a kick-boxer turned boxer.
Brunker was thrilled after the win, and said he wanted this to be the first of many fights.
“It’s good to get the win and get a start on kicking my career off again,” he said.
“It felt so good to be back. I have a lot to be happy about.
“It is awesome to back with a shutout win. I was rusty but I got in some much needed rounds.”
Brunker had a hard time finding bouts recently because of a disagreement with a former manager, but he is hopeful his new team will find him more fights as long as he keeps winning.
