Whether you’re moving into a new home or you feel the need to freshen your interior, changing colour schemes can do wonders.
Experts say it’s possible to achieve this at reasonable-to-little cost through keeping a blank canvas.
White walls and neutrals colours are a good base; adding a glimpse of colour through a decorative approach is often more subtle and flexible.
Think rugs, cushions, throws, artwork, vases, photo frames, and mirrors. Smaller furnishings, such as occasional chairs are ideal.
Fantastic Furniture Visual Merchandising Manager, Craig Evans provided some tips on what’s hot.
“Trending right now are rich colours that take their cue from Mother Nature. Think berry, ruby, dark aqua, reds and greens for a look that exudes modern elegance,” Mr Evans said.
Mr Evans said once you have decided on new colours, then consider how you will use them.
“It’s worth starting with your centre-piece item, such as your sofa or dining table and working out from there, adding statement pieces and accessories such as cushions and throws to complete the look.”
When adding a touch of colour and style to your home, you could also use smaller furniture items like an occasional chair.
“Occasional chairs are a great way to make a stylish statement, without a huge interior re-design. There is a wide range available, from traditional wing-back chairs to modern and inventive designs,” he said.
Rugs can be a good starting point when redesigning a room; they can hold a room together, particularly in open plan areas because they provide a divide.
“Accessories such as cushions, rugs and throws can update a tired looking living space quickly and easily without breaking the bank,” Mr Evans said. These are also perfect instruments for mixing and matching patterns, as well as texture.
Something as simple as a vase or bunch of flowers can also add colour, such as Villeroy and Boch’s vases.
The decorative approach provides an opportunity to update the colour scheme more often or to transfer it to another room.
