The Yarramundi Rural Fire Brigade will be opening its doors to the community on Saturday, August 6, in an attempt to recruit new volunteers and showcase the capabilities of the fire-fighting unit.
The station, located on the corner of Mountain Avenue and Springwood Road, Yarramundi, will be open from 10am to 2pm and will host a range of attractions for kids and adults alike.
Captain Ed Cameron said this is a great opportunity for the community to come along and meet their local volunteers.
“We are always seeking new members to join our team and we are taking this opportunity to show the community who we are, what we do and how they can help their community in times of need,” Capt Cameron said.
There will also be plenty of other reasons for people to attend including to obtain practical advice ahead of the bush fire season.
“We will be conducting a number of short talks on bush fire preparation for properties, pets and self as well as practical tips for maintaining chainsaws and portable pumps.
“We will also be demonstrating a typical response to a fire, highlighting a typical day for a volunteer fire-fighter.”
There will be a number of attractions for kids including a petting zoo, pony rides and face-painting as well as plenty of fun giveaways.
“We are always up for a chat and look forward to meeting with the community,” Capt Cameron said.
Further details on schedules and attractions will be made available in the lead up to the day on Yarramundi Rural Fire Brigade’s official facebook page – www.facebook.com/yarramundi
