HAWKESBURY football juniors had a thrill on Saturday morning when new Western Sydney Wanderers player Steven Lustica dropped by Icely Park for a few hours.
Lustica posed for plenty of photos and even jumped into a few games of mini-football.
Richmond Ex-Serviceman Soccer Club administrator Tracey Boyd said it was great to have Lustica stop by the club’s home ground.
“We were really happy to share it with the rest of the Hawkesbury clubs and we were happy with how the day turned out,” she said.
Boyd said some of the under-6s and under-7s were clearly a bit confused as to why a grown man was playing football with them, but the rest of the crowd knew what was going on.
Boyd said she made sure to let other Hawkebsury clubs know what was going on.
“We had a chance to involve the wider Hawkesbury soccer family as well and it was great exposure for the club,” she said.
“I had all the mini games moved back to Icely Park and let the opposition know that if they were interested in staying longer they could get involved.”
City washed out
Hawkesbury City’s first grade match against the Rydalmere Lions was washed out thanks to Saturday night rain.
It means City will be forced to play yet another mid-week catch up match.
The mid-week catch up games leave the players tired come the weekend, according to coach Dean Bertenshaw, and while they might win the catch-up game, the following game is often lacklustre.
City is in eighth place after the weekend, with 17 points, and is an outside shot of making the finals.
Rovers beat Wanderers
After winning three games in a row, the Lowlands Wanderers have lost their past two matches in Nepean’s Premier League division.
At the weekend, Penrith Rovers defeated them 7-3 in a high scoring affair, whereas the week before, it was St Clair United, which emerged victors in a 5-1 game.
this week, the team has an away game against Glenmore Park.
