WITH the woodblock and linocut prints of Margaret Preston being dear to many Australians’ hearts, learning the skill of printmaking so you can have a crack at your own is always a popular idea.
Cross this skill off your list of artistic desires at the ‘Reduction lino Printing’ workshop next month with Hawkesbury Printmakers.
Sheila Sharp will show you how to transfer your reversed design (sample designs supplied) on to a lino square.
Either bring your own tools or borrow some to learn how to carve out the background and print on the etching press. Your print will have the entire design in one colour, eg. red. You then carve out all the parts of the design to remain in your first colour. With careful registration you will over print your initial prints using your altered plate and a second colour.
This workshop will be held at K13 on the Western Sydney University campus, Saturday, August 13 from 10am–3pm. BYO lunch. $35 or $30 members. Materials provided. Enquiries and bookings to Sheila on 0408161284 or se.sharp@bigpond.net.au.
