Story teller, poet, musician, honest bloke … all valid descriptors of Australian country music icon John Williamson.
In 2014 Williamson celebrated the release of his 50th album. Titled Honest People, it was warmly embraced by his loyal fanbase and has kept him on the road ever since.
On Friday, September 9, he will bring his Honest People tour to Windsor RSL.
Very few artists have experienced or earned the longevity of such a career as Williamson.
It’s a rare thing, but when you review his albums and songs you can see why. His catalogue stands the test of time.
Wiliamson’s music has continued to capture this country, its people and the events that have shaped a nation for 44 years.
During this time he has toured continuously, stopping only to record.
The release of Honest People coincided with the publication of his autobiography, which was aptly titled, Hey True Blue.
During Williamson’s career, he has almost shunned celebrity, resisting offers to take his music overseas, instead preferring to stay true to his passion – Australia and its characters.
The Honest People Tour showcases many newer songs like Heatwave, Girt By Sea, Clouds Over Tamworth, Keep Walking, Kings and Queens and many more, all capturing real people and real Australia.
Of course, the set will also include many old favourites that can never be left out of a Williamson live show.
Williamson’s career is arguably stronger now than ever before. Not only is he an artist of unbelievable poetry but he is also a man of great integrity.
He has always stood firm to his own beliefs and his courage of conviction, regardless of the outcome and without regret.
There would be few Australians as proud of his country and his latest release highlights these convictions.
Over the year’s Williamson has performed at many of Australia’s most historic and nation-stopping events, as well as entertaining numerous battlers around the country.
