Australian star Matthew Dellavedova has reportedly agreed to a four-year, USD $38.4 million ($51.2 million AUD) deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to US media.
The Maryborough export is a restricted free agent after playing in Cleveland Cavaliers' NBA championship win and the club can match the deal but are unlikely to do it due to having an overflowing salary cap.
ESPN reported free agents can't sign their deals until July 8 [Australian time] then restricted free agents have to wait three days for their current clubs to match or decline to match those deals.
It means Dellavedova will see his NBA wage rise radically from the reported $1.4 million he earned this past season and NBA free agents around the league are enjoying large pay rises due to the league's new USD $24 billion, nine-year media rights deal.
The Bucks will now have two Australians on the roster after drafting power forward Thon Maker with the 10th pick in this year's draft and Dellavedova will have the chance to play major minutes as their chief backup point guard to Michael Carter-Williams while Greek small forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has also spent time at point guard.
Signing the bumper deal adds another chapter to Dellavedova's NBA fairytale after he shot into the league despite going undrafted in 2013 with the Cavaliers offering him a tryout which he turned into a roster spot and eventually the backup point guard role.
The 25-year-old starred in last year's NBA Finals after Kyrie Irving's injury pushed him into the starting role and while he played a smaller role in this year's win, he was still a crowd favourite in Cleveland due to his hustling defence and selfless play.
Dellavedova is in Australia preparing for the Rio Olympics with the Boomers and will have to wait for the Cavaliers to officially decline to match his Bucks' offer sheet before it can become official but Cavs superstar LeBron James has foreshadowed his club's decision by congratulating Delly via his verified Twitter account.
