The North West Metropolitan Region Highway Patrol, Hawkesbury Local Area Command and Vehicle Inspectors from the NSW RMS conducted a local operation focusing on vehicle compliance on Friday, June 24.
Five vehicles were issued with major grounded defect notices and required towing from the inspection location.
The worst was a vehicle that had only three brakes operating, the rear nearside brake was inoperable.
Police issued many defects for problems, including insufficient ride height, tyres’ worn-through rubber, steel belt down to canvas, lights not working and an automatic vehicle that could be started in gear. A total of 31 defect notices were issued to 31 vehicles.
A P-plate holder had his licence suspended after being detected exceeding the speed limit by more than 30km/h. His vehicle was subsequently also grounded after many defects were identified by RMS inspectors who deemed it unsafe to be driven from the inspection site.
Local police said the operation was a good example of how well the NSW Police and RMS were able to work together to improve road safety.
