HAWKESBURY City Junior Rugby League is having a reunion day at Turnbull Oval on June 26 and wants anyone with a past association with the club or its predecessor clubs to join them.
The club was thrilled to have a lot of interest when it came up with the idea recently, and expects a sizeable crowd in North Richmond on Sunday.
The day will mean a lot to three of the club’s old hands, John Peters, Jeff Jackson and Brendon Lyons, who are looking forward to reminiscing with their old mates.
Lyons never played for Hawkesbury, and these days describes himself as a “dedicated spectator”, but he has spent plenty of time around the club, and is thoroughly looking forward to Sunday.
“I'm hoping to catch up with a few old fellas I haven't seen in a long time,” he said.
“A few people have rung me up and asked whether I'm going so hopefully it will be a good turnout and hopefully a few of the younger kids turn up as well.”
Jackson was a coach and administrator with the club, and his family also has a history with it, and he too is excited to see all the people he used to know.
“I have enjoyed every minute of my time with the club and it has meant I’ve met blokes like Brendon and John,’ he said.
“I've always been a one club man. This weekend will mean a real lot to me, especially seeing a lot of the old faces.
“You hear about other clubs having them and we thought this year, we've got a new committee who are doing a great job and I think we should just appreciate the ex-players and members we had at Colo and Richmond clubs.
“The more people that turn up the better, and it will only get bigger every year.”
Peters was an A Grade coach for a number of years, and has three generations of family in the club.
Like Lyons he is now just a spectator, but makes sure he is down every week to watch games.
