HAWKESBURY based Sydney Showjumping Club has been named Equestrian Australia’s club of the year, much to the delight of its members.
The club received the award for 2015 earlier this month.
Club president David Lawrence said everyone was thrilled when they found out.
“We were amazed, when you think it is Australia wide,” he said.
“It was a great accolade to the committee and people who run the club. There is a committee who runs the club and works very hard.
“The beautiful thing is it is the club of the year Australia wide.”
Lawrence said lots of work went into making the club what it is today.
“We train officials and riders, we train people involved in the sport to be involved in the sport,” he said.
“All of those people are imperative to the sport. All in all, especially the show jumping side of equestrian, we're a very competent organisation.”
Lawrence said the club had put a lot of money into its facilities at the Hawkesbury Showground over the years, in order to host good competitions.
“Just about every Olympian Australia has ever had has come through Sydney Showjumping Club,” he said.
“We probably have the best facilities in Australia and that is important when you look at the value of horses these days.”
