WOY Woy chiropractor Chris Nelson retreated to a toilet in a shopping centre on Tuesday after pleading guilty to sending racist and offensive Facebook posts to indigenous Senator Nova Peris.
He emerged to tell a journalist to “Bugger off” before walking away, his story about South Korean hackers taking over his Facebook page in shreds.
Nelson, 65, and a secretary of the Liberal Party’s Woy Woy branch until the Facebook rant on May 28, was expelled from the party and booted out of Rotary after posts that included “Nova f… off. You were only endorsed by Juliar because you were a black c… Go back to the bush and suck on witchity grubs and yams. Stop painting your f...ing face with white s… in parliament. Other than being a runner you are nothing.”
A police statement of facts tendered to Woy Woy Local Court magistrate Susan McIntyre on Tuesday said Nelson made admissions to detectives when he was arrested on May 30 at his Woy Woy chiropractic centre.
He told police he was not motivated by racism but “due to government policies concerning illegal immigration and welfare payments to persons of Aboriginal heritage”.
He was charged with using a telecommunication service to cause offence after police noted “this appears to be a bias-motivated crime (racial)”.
Police asked Ms McIntyre to consider the racist element of the communication as an aggravating factor when sentencing Nelson on July 5.
In an interview with a Central Coast newspaper shortly before he was arrested Nelson said “I was clearly hacked. I'm the victim of a really horrible and extremely vicious hacking”.
He repeatedly declined to comment outside the court on Tuesday after his solicitor Dave Kelly said he would plead guilty.
Court documents showed Nelson was convicted of medium range drink driving in 2015.
In a Facebook post after Nelson’s rant on May 28 Ms Peris said she would leave the post on her Facebook page “to show the ugly side of this country as I have always done”.
“You must have had a terrible life Chris to continue as an ADULT spitting such racist and vile hatred towards a fellow human being.
“I’ll continue to wear ochre on my face just like my people have done for thousands of years. My skin is my pride.”
Ms Peris re-tweeted media reports of the guilty plea within minutes of the brief court hearing.
