The Electronics Entertainment Expo is done for another year, delivering a bunch of exciting new games to look forward to over the next year and beyond.
Here are our top ten games or franchises that made waves at E3:
10. Fifa 2017: Fifa might not be our all-consuming cup of tea like it is for some, but the addition of a story mode certainly looks like it’s going to capture that all-or-nothing pressures of sport like a good movie.
9. Spider-Man: To be fair, we’re yet to see a decent Spidey game despite numerous movie reboots. With Insomniac behind this one, fingers crossed they deliver a swinging good time.
8. I Am Setsuna: An old-school JRPG in the style of the timeless Chrono Trigger? Sign us up!
7. Watch Dogs 2: The original was at the centre of controversy after it was revealed the trailer was trying to pass off polished-up demo footage as indicative of the actual game. After that it was dismissed out of hand and as a result is now sorely underrated. Let’s hope this one does things right.
6. Titanfall 2: It may not have set the world on fire, but there’s definite potential there for this shooter. A single-player campaign will help.
5. Mass Effect Andromeda: Enough time has passed that most of us have forgiven Bioware for its controversial ending to Mass Effect 3. Let’s see what they can do in a new galaxy.
4. Battlefield 1: The quintessential war shooter takes on the Great War. The timing just seems right, with so much “near-future” military shooter burnout. And hey, even Snoop Dogg digs it!
3. Crash Bandicoot remakes: 90s kids will remember – Crash is a well-loved gaming icon that some might say Playstation never really exploited to its full potential. Well, maybe that time of exploitation is now.
2. Dishonored 2: The first Dishonored was remarkable because it balanced the stealth and power fantasies for whichever flavour you preferred in your dark assassins. It also absolutely nailed its level design, giving the player almost free rein to explore. Hopefully the sequel is just as good or better!
1. South Park – The Fractured But Whole: Unlike Fifa, this is our particular cup of tea, though it may not be others. Its predecessor Stick of Truth successfully brought the South Park franchise into the interactive world, though some may have found its gameplay a bit bland. Under the guiding hand of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, this foray into the world of superhero looks like it’ll be an absolute blast.
