There is no doubt who Kevin Arellano’s favourite rugby league player is.
“Definitely, Johnathan Thurston,” Kevin said. “I like him because he wears a headgear.”
That headgear is now in possession of the William Stimson Public School pupil.
After State of Origin I, Thurston went over to a section of the crowd packed with Queensland supporters and as part of his normal ritual handed his headgear to a lucky supporter.
Flanked by his brother Jonathan and sister Cindy, Kevin became the envy of every Maroon supporter.
“I couldn't believe he came over and gave his headgear to me,” he said. “I was very happy.”
The video of Kevin’s infectious smile as the world’s greatest footballer handed him his headgear has gone viral. He was also a special guest on last week’s Footy Show on Channel Nine.
The Wetherill Park resident said he plans to keep the headgear in a safe place and wear it as JT and the Maroons search for a series win next week.
So why does Kevin support Queensland?
“I like the team and the players,” he said.
