TWO proposed developments at 67 Kurrajong Road have been unanimously blocked by Hawkesbury Council.
On May 31, the eleven Hawkesbury Councillors present all voted to refuse a 52-lot development and an eight-lot development on the same site.
The 52-lot development called for 50 new homes and two lots devoted to community services.
Several residents came to Council to oppose the development, with most saying they despaired at the loss of native wildlife if the development went ahead, and had concerns about the increased traffic in the area.
Council’s report noted the site was host to 22 threatened species. It also noted the flora and fauna report, which was submitted with the DA, did not take into account the impact of run off and dirt going into the nearby Little Wheeny Creek.
Hawkesbury councillors Mike Creed and Paul Rasmussen both said the 52-lot development was overkill.
Cr Bob Porter said the fact the development would rely on pump out sewerage alone was enough to knock it back, saying it would need two trucks a day to cart out all the sewerage.
He also added that to clear the forest on the site would have a huge impact on Little Wheeny Creek in his opinion.
Director of City Planning Matthew Owens was asked by Christine Paine whether Council could talk with the developer to try to work out a smaller development.
Mr Ownes said he understood the develop, PRJM Associates Pty Ltd, was not interested in changing either application.
The 52-lot DA was voted down first, and when the eight-lot DA came before Council, there was no discussion and the Councillors also voted to refuse it.
