COSTA Georgiadis from the ABC Gardening Australia was the start host at the Hawkesbury EarthCare Centre on the grounds of Western Sydney University at Richmond last Sunday, May 22.
Organised by the National Network of City Farms and Community Gardens group, the day’s theme was ‘Community Gardens and Well Being’.
Visitors from the city and beyond were inspired to see first-hand how the EarthCare Centre has been growing vegetables organically in itscommunity garden for more than 20 years.
A WSU nursing student and a practising Horticultural Therapist shared the many health benefits of gardening and how it is being used as a tool to improve health and well being in mental health, aged care, disability and a range of other settings.
EarthCare convenor Eric Brocken said the day was a great success. “Everyone enjoyed coming along to meet Costa and are invited to come along Tuesdays and Saturdays to be part of this ongoing local project.”
