HAWKESBURY City has got the proverbial monkey off its back after finally winning a game in Football NSW’s NPL 3 competition.
The first graders took down Western NSW Mariners 3-0, with Andrew Stevenson, Jason Browne and Evan Daglis booting balls into the net.
Hawkesbury coach Dean Bertenshaw said he was relieved the side had finally won a match, and said it deserved the win.
“The Mariners beat Dunbar Rovers [currently third on the ladder] 4-2 last week,” he said.
“The Mariners are on the improve and they signed some good players who played their first game this week so we had a pretty good game to beat them.”
The return from injury of striker Terry Pannowitz, who set up two goals, and James Thurtell provided a much needed boost.
The Hawks have a tough month ahead though. This week, they play first placed Hills, then fourth placed Stanmore, fifth placed Sydney Uni and sixth placed Inter Lions.
