HAWKESBURY City succumbed to the might of Sydney United in the FFA Cup on Wednesday, May 4.
The Hawks bowed out of the tournament in the same round they did last year.
It was never going to be easy for the home team, with Sydney United boasting a number of A-League calibre players.
Sydney United plays two levels higher than the Hawks, in the NPL 1 grade, and have yet to lose a game in that league.
However, Hawks coach Dean Bertenshaw said it was a good experience for his team to play such a quality side.
“Sydney United played as expected. They were very quick and very fit being professional and semi-professional players,” he said.
“Evan Daglis scored for us after they went up 2-0 in the first 15 minutes. We scored at the 30th minute so we were getting into the game a little and then they scored straight away and again on halftime at 4-1 and from there we had no chance.”
United scored two more goals in the second half to wrap up the game and win 6-1.
The Hawks can now concentrate on getting their first win of the NPL 3 season.
The team started with four straight losses, but managed a 1-1 draw with Dulwich Hill in their previous game.
This week, they travel take on Rydalmere as the team looks for its first win.
Bertenshaw said the team escaped the Sydney United clash with one possible injury, which is a far cry from earlier in the year when his players were dropping like flies with injuries or finding themselves suspended.
