THE Upper Hawkesbury Power Boat Club is working to bring the iconic Bridge to Bridge race back but has no time frame for its return.
The club was forced to scrap the race last year, because Marine Rescue NSW, which had a long standing arrangement with the club, could no longer provide the support needed to assist with the running of the race.
Marine Rescue NSW told the Gazette last year that assisting the club with the race was not what the organisation was about.
Upper Hawkesbury Power Boat Club commodore John Davoll said the club was happy to run the abridged version of the race, and would continue to do so every year, but there were talks to bring the Bridge to Bridge back.
He said it all rested on having the man power to supervise the 110-kilometre course.
On the weekend, the State Emergency Services assisted the club and volunteers with running the race.
Boat drivers are strapped into their craft with a harness, and some have an enclosed capsule with an oxygen supply in case of a roll.
However, regardless of the safety measures on the boats, the club and its volunteers need to have line of sight of most of the course in case of accidents, which can happen, as Doug Smith demonstrated on the weekend.
