The Australian country music fraternity is well known for looking after its own.
It should be no surprise when news that one of its beloved sons is facing the battle of all battles none question when called to do their bit.
Karl Broadie, one of Australia’s most respected and accomplished singer-songwriters, recently broke the news that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer, which had spread to the liver.
It was news that rocked the industry.
Karl wrote on his Facebook page: “After several months of unexplained pain and discomfort, I now have a diagnosis I can share on my illness.
“As you might imagine, with me being ever positive, I’m entirely defiant upon hearing the prognosis; incurable, inoperable, fatal, terminal. I’m not having it.
“I can do this and I will be unfaltering in my belief that no matter how difficult a journey I have up ahead, I will emerge healthier and stronger than ever.”
Upon hearing the news the country music community has rallied behind the native Scotsman, whose career has spanned the world from Scotland, the USA and Australia.
A Concert for Karl will be held on Sunday, April 17 at Rooty Hill RSL to help raise funds to support Karl in the costs of his treatment.
The show, which starts at 2.30pm will features performances by Kasey Chambers, Adam Harvey, Catherine Britt, Brooke McClymont, Adam Eckersley, Luke O’Shea, Jasmine Rae, Harry Hookey, Katie Brianna, Caitlin Harnett, Adam Young and Den Henrahan.
In their promotional release advertising the event, the organisers say it is no surprise to find so many adding their talent to the day.
“This heartfelt outpouring of love and support from the music community is a reflection of Karl’s reputation among the music community, where he is an esteemed and celebrated songwriter and performer.
“Karl is a friend and mentor to many and the response is testament to the kind, generous and thoughtful human that we know him to be.”
Tickets for the show are available now: $35 for general admission and $55 for premium seats (includes $20 donation).
