HOW do you think the RAAF should celebrate a century at Richmond air base?
RAAF Richmond is asking the Hawkesbury community how it wants to celebrate the centenary in 2021, as it starts to formulate plans for the big event.
Chief of Air Force Air Marshal Leo Davies recently launched Air Force 2021 in Canberra.
Senior Australian Defence Force Officer at RAAF Base Richmond Air Commodore Richard Lennon said the first stage of planning for Air Force 2021 is a period of community consultation.
“RAAF Base Richmond was the first Air Force base established in NSW,” he said. “The base has been a proud part of this region for 90 years. Generations of Air Force men and women have served at Richmond and become involved in the local community.
“I anticipate many people in the Hawkesbury will have great ideas on how the Air Force should mark this important milestone. I encourage everyone to visit the Air Force website and provide their suggestions.
“The vision for Air Force 2021 is a program of carefully selected events and initiatives that will honour the service and sacrifices of the last 100 years, demonstrate today’s highly capable force and foreshadow our continued evolution into the future.
“In particular, the Air Force will use the centenary to inspire the next generation of officers and airmen and airwomen.”
RAAF Base Richmond is home to a number of Air Mobility Group units, including 37 Squadron which operates the fleet of C-130J Hercules. The RAAF’s C-27J Spartans are also operating from Richmond until facilities at their permanent home at Amberley are completed.
