THE Hawkesbury and Hills Proposed Amalgamation Public Rally will be taking place tomorrow from 2pm to 4pm at Hollands Paddock, behind Windsor Riverview Shopping Centre.
Speakers will include former State member and speaker of the house, Kevin Rozzoli, Dave Wilkins from the Sydney Blues Festival, Narelle Ward from Colo Community Centre, former councillors Rod Rose and Les Sheather, Richmond Mainstreet Inc’s Venitia Wilson, Danielle Wheeler from HEN, the North Richmond Community Centre’s Peter Webb, and spokespeople from the Are You OK committee, Rotary, the Harry Terri Show Society, and Save our Council.
Rally organisers, Windsor Business Group treasurer, Sue Wingate, and secretary, Gae Kelly, will also speak on the day.
Wingate, Kelly and the Windsor Business Group members organised the rally due to concern that members of the public have not been given enough opportunity to ‘have their say’.
Everyone is welcome at the rally, including Hawkesbury and The Hills Shire residents, or anyone else who wants to come along to find out more about the proposed merger, and hear attendees’ thoughts about the issue.
Kelly provided the Gazette with the following words, which will form part of her speech at tomorrow’s event.
“Come and listen to our story about a COUNCIL named Hawkesbury, an area involved in History and Tourism - and then one day Mike Baird became Premier and up through the ground came a bubbling pool of Council Amalgamation... with Hills that is Castle Hill Hi Rise McMansions,” she said.
“The first thing you know Byrnes is the Mayor, folks here said move away from there. Hawkesbury is the place you ought to be! So they loaded up the truck and had a rally. Against Hills that is - high density housing and impersonal service.”
