Sheep are raising the baa when it comes to law enforcement in New Zealand.
Proving that they can be much more than food and fodder for jokes, a flock of sheep managed to do something local police could not.
They stopped a high-speed driver after a 90-minute police pursuit through Central Otago near Queenstown.
Police said the pursuit began after they pulled over a man driving a Honda, because it did not have number plates, on Friday morning.
It is alleged the car sped off and was followed by police at high speeds from the south of Alexandra through the Cromwell and Kawarau Gorges to Queenstown before the drover hit the woolly roadblock at the Wakatipu Basin.
Several police cars were involved in the chase and road spikes were used at several places.
One set of spikes deflated one of the tyres but the driver did not stop until he came up against the flock of sheep.
Three men and a woman were arrested and pictured as they were handcuffed on the road.
Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown, said the flock belonged to a local officer and happened to be in the right place at the right time.
They were being moved by a farm worker.
None of the sheep, or working dogs, were injured as the car came to a halt before attempting to drive through the flock.
