A second man has been charged after the discovery of a drug lab following an explosion in East Kurrajong last month.
Just after 7am on Tuesday 29 December 2015, emergency services responded to reports of an explosion on East Kurrajong Road.
On arrival, officers from Hawkesbury Local Area Command located a detached garage and a van with fire damage.
Police entered the garage to check for occupants and allegedly located a clandestine laboratory.
A crime scene was established, which was examined by State Crime Command Chemical Operations Unit with the assistance of Fire & Rescue NSW – Hazmat.
Officers were alerted after a 34-year-old man reported to Mt Druitt Hospital later that evening, with serious burns and shrapnel injuries to his legs.
He was soon transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he remains for treatment and rehabilitation.
Following extensive investigations, the man was arrested at Royal North Shore Hospital yesterday (Wednesday 13 January 2016) and charged with large commercial drug manufacture.
He was refused bail and is due to reappear at Penrith Local Court on Friday 22 January 2016.
A 48-year-old man is currently before the courts on manufacture prohibited drug charges.
