The Camokazis need you.
The girls from the Hawkesbury and Hills Area Roller Derby, also known by their competition names as The Camokazis, are looking for new players for 2016.
The team will have a meet and greet on December 10 at the Macquarie Arms Hotel in Windsor from 6pm to 7.30pm.
Blocker Lauren “Butterscream” Boxall said this was the time of year to start thinking about playing roller derby.
“All our games are done for the year but we find now is the time to get roller derby into the minds of people,” she said.
“We're hoping to see some skates under the Christmas tree.”
Boxall said there was no ideal body or personality type that would suit roller derby players, but one thing stood above the rest in the list of desires.
“Determination is the one quality we would want above anything else,” she said.
“We want determined people. It helps if they come from a sporting background but they don't have to.
“Roller derby is not something people would have done before. Everything is new skills so you need that determination, stubbornness also helps.”
Boxall said The Camokazis started practising in heavily in February.
She said anyone who was interested in playing should come to the meet and greet.
“Roller derby is open to a large group and variety of people,” she said.
“Our members have ranged from 18-50 and come from all walks of life.
“You don't have to be a particular body shape or have a particular lifestyle, you can be whoever you want to be.
“You come in and you are no longer so and so. You live by your derby name. it doesn't matter what you do in real life.”
